CPCU® Certified Editorial · Independent & Unbiased Insurance Information

Editorial Standards

Last updated: 2026

InsuranceXpertise exists for one reason: to help American consumers make better insurance decisions through clear, unbiased, expert-reviewed information. Every guide on this site is held to the editorial standards described below.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team operates independently from any commercial relationships. We do not sell insurance, broker policies, or earn commissions from any insurance carrier. Our content is funded by display advertising (clearly labeled) and never by carrier sponsorships of specific recommendations. A carrier cannot pay to appear in our rankings, and a carrier we critique cannot pay to remove that critique.

Who Writes Our Content

Every guide on InsuranceXpertise is written and reviewed by Gaurav Kalita, CPCU®, who holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation — recognized as the gold standard in the U.S. property and casualty insurance industry — along with the AINS®, AIAF, and AIS credentials from The Institutes.

The CPCU® designation requires passing eight rigorous examinations covering insurance principles, risk management, business law, ethics, and finance. CPCU charterholders are bound by a professional code of ethics enforced by the CPCU Society.

How We Research

Every claim in our guides is supported by one or more of:

  • Carrier filings: State insurance department rate filings and policy forms
  • Industry data: NAIC complaint indices, J.D. Power studies, A.M. Best financial ratings
  • Federal sources: CMS.gov for Medicare data, HealthCare.gov for ACA data, FEMA for flood, BLS for workers' comp
  • Direct underwriter interviews: We talk to actual underwriters and licensed agents to verify how rules are applied in practice
  • Real consumer experience: Reader-submitted policy documents, claims experiences, and rate quotes

Fact-Checking Process

Before publication, every guide goes through a four-step process:

  1. Drafted by Gaurav Kalita using primary sources only.
  2. Fact-checked against current carrier filings and state regulations. Specific premium ranges are cross-referenced with at least three independent rate sources for the same coverage profile.
  3. Reviewed for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to our independence policy.
  4. Approved for publication only after every quantitative claim has been verified.

How We Keep Content Current

Insurance rules, premiums, and product features change constantly. To keep guides accurate:

  • Every guide is reviewed and updated at least once every 12 months.
  • Guides covering specific 2026 rates, ACA Open Enrollment dates, Medicare changes, and other time-sensitive material are reviewed quarterly.
  • Major regulatory changes (new state laws, federal rule updates) trigger an out-of-cycle update.
  • Every page shows a clear "Last updated" date so readers can judge the freshness of the information.

Corrections Policy

If a reader, carrier, or regulator identifies an error in our content, we:

  1. Investigate the claim within 48 hours.
  2. Correct any verified error promptly.
  3. Add a transparent correction notice at the top of the article when the correction is material.
  4. Update related guides that may share the same error.

Report a possible error to contact@insurancexpertise.com.

Advertising & Sponsorship Boundaries

InsuranceXpertise hosts display advertising through Google AdSense and direct ad placements. All advertising is clearly labeled and visually separated from editorial content. We do not accept:

  • Native advertising disguised as editorial guides.
  • Paid placement in rankings or "best of" lists.
  • Sponsored reviews of specific carriers.
  • Affiliate incentives that would alter ranking order.

This Is Education, Not Personalized Advice

Our guides are educational. They are not personalized insurance, legal, financial, or tax advice. Insurance is regulated state-by-state, and individual policy availability and pricing depend on factors specific to you. Always consult a licensed insurance professional, attorney, or financial advisor before making a decision based on information you read here.
